"I Don't Know How to Check that Google Classroom Thing!"
Hello Educators!
Our school is nearing the end of the first nine weeks, which means that students are quickly working to turn in all of their work and parent-teacher conferences will be happening soon. As a district that utilizes Google Classroom, we get this comment regularly from parents and guardians: “I have no clue how to check my child’s Google Classroom!” So, in an effort to assist you AND the parents/guardians of our students, I have created a tutorial video using Screencastify that shows them how to check their child’s work and missing assignments. You can view it below, and feel free to share the link with the parents and guardians of your students!
Screencastify is an effective and easy tool that you can use to help students, parents and guardians be successful this year. We are in the third school year that is impacted by COVID, which means that we are facing quarantines and eLearning days in the midst of face-to-face instruction. Screencastify is Google Chrome extension that allows you to either record webcam videos or create a recording of your screen with audio. It could be used to record short read-alouds, explain how to do a math skill, or explain a content-related topic. Ditch That Textbook also has a great blog post with several ways that you AND your students can use Screencastify to get the most out of learning, and you can view that blog post here. To create a video, all you have to do is click the logo that is added to your toolbar once the Chrome extension is downloaded. If you need help with that process, let me know and I’d be happy to help!

Chandler,
ReplyDeleteI have used Screencastify when teaching virtually due to the pandemic. Still, I had not thought of the different ways to utilize it beyond recording my lessons and adding them to edpuzzle. The blog you shared definitely gave me more ways to use it! I have been considering creating assignments where my students have to explain one problem instead of doing around 20 problems because they can cheat on worksheets. I just haven’t had the time to implement something like this, but the blog seems to give a great idea with the “one question deep dive,” which would be easy to implement.

ReplyDeleteThis is great Chandler. What a great way to hook teachers AND sell the tech tool.
DeleteThank you!
DeleteI love the way you are showing a little bit about both google classroom and Screencastify. Another tool that is similar to Screencastify is Screencast-o-matic. I found it on accident looking for screencastify and fell in love.
ReplyDeleteI will have to look into Screencast-o-matic...I think that I've heard of it, but haven't done any digging beyond that. Thank you for sharing!
